Organizers

SpaceUp San Diego 2011 is being organized by a team of space community and unconference leaders:

  • Chris Radcliff is an author, software engineer, citizen scientist, technology speaker, and frequent unconference participant. He founded SpaceUp.
  • Jesse Clark founded the San Diego Space Society. A licensed pilot, he works for the Intuit Corporation and has previously worked for NASA at the Johnson Space Center. He helped organize the first SpaceUp.
  • Dave Dressler is a director of the San Diego Space Society. He is currently Technology Manager for the San Diego County Regional Occupational Program (ROP). He is organizing the International Space Development Conference in San Diego in 2013.
  • Members of the San Diego Space Society provide ongoing support for SpaceUp San Diego and other educational events and projects around the Southern California area.

There’s a lot more to do, and we’ll need all the help we can get. If you’d like to pitch in, let us know.

Past Organizers

SpaceUp San Diego wouldn’t be possible (let alone awesome) without the herculean efforts of these organizers:

  • Patrick Crowley is a web designer and developer. He runs the SD Ruby user group, and has organized several local events including BarCamp, MerbCamp, SpaceUp, and Jelly coworking meetups.
  • Jeff Berkwits is a freelance writer and publicist. He was the former editor of Amazing Stories and has been nominated for two Hugo awards. His work on the first SpaceUp earned it wide media coverage.
  • Edward O’Connor is a web app developer and web standards expert. He helped organize the first three BarCamp San Diego events and the first SpaceUp.
  • Saura Naderi is an engineer. She founded The myLab Program at UC San Diego.
  • Gregory Wagner is earning a Ph.D. from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at UC San Diego.
  • Heather Banic is a student at UC San Diego and the president of the UCSD Astrophysics Club.
